Kyrgios & Kokkinakis Team Up For Wimbledon Doubles

| by Sebastian Dahlman

The Special K's are coming to SW19 as Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis followed up on their promise to play doubles at Wimbledon.

Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis are very good friends having basically grown up together. They're also very good tennis players with Kyrgios having had more success in singles but Kokkinakis put together some impressive performances this year as well.

He also dealt with numerous injuries that certainly derailed a very promising career but a return to winning was very impactful on the Australian. The Special K's were born at the 2021 Australian Open when they went all the way to the final of the event ending up as champions.

It wasn't the only event they played that year as they added another trophy in Atlanta later. It was enough to earn them a place at the ATP Finals where they played winning only one of three matches. This year has yet to see them pair up as Kyrgios spent much of it injured but they will be reuniting at Wimbledon.

After teasing it earlier this year, the duo officially appeared on the entry list for the event. It's the first time we see the new version of the Special K's in the Wimbledon doubles. They wanted to play together last year but opted against it. It will be interesting to see them play together especially as there are some doubts about the health of both.

Kokkinakis spoke about an injury after his Roland Garros exit and the performance of Kyrgios in Stuttgart certainly didn't leave many people inspired. He complained about his knee which seems to still bother him

His Halle Open withdrawal certainly didn't make anyone feel better about any of that but it's very unlikely that we don't see him in London as he was already spotted practicing in Mallorca.
