Korda Sticks To Initial Top 20 Goal By End Of 2023 Despite Injury Struggles

Sebastian Korda didn't have the best of years, but he still has a clear goal in mind and is working towards achieving that goal.

Just because the season so far hasn't gone the way Sebastian Korda wanted doesn't mean it has to be a wasted season. The American had an impressive start early in Australia, beating former finalist Daniil Medvedev, but he failed to follow that up with significant performances.

There were some encouraging moments here and there, but he hopes that the Asian stretch can provide a spark for him. Many ATP points are still up for grabs, and Korda has a clear goal. It's actually the same goal he had before the start of the year, and he's not that far off it.

It hasn't been easy, for sure. But I enjoy these types of conditions playing here. It is kind of like indoor tennis, [which is] definitely one of my favourites. My goal at the start of the year was to finish Top 20, Top 25. That's still my goal. If I have a couple of good weeks, [I have] a good chance to do it. I have a lot of weeks ahead of me and hopefully I’ll have some good results to finish the year and prepare for next year.

Korda is indeed pretty close to that goal as he currently occupies number 33 on the rankings. To get close to the Top 20, Korda needs some 500 points more which is not that much. One trophy and a few good runs could do it, and getting to the Top 20 would certainly render this season successful.

It's actually a very, very beautiful place. [I’m] staying in a great hotel and have a great view of the whole city. It is very easy to be here. [I’m] very relaxed. A lot of the players on the Tour said how great the crowds are here, the fans. People love tennis here… so I’m expecting a good week from the fans.
