Novak Djokovic reached another milestone on the
ATP Tour, starting his 900th week inside the Top 10 in the rankings.
The first week after the Wimbledon Championships offered players three tournaments in which they could participate. They were all ATP 250 events, with two of them held in Europe and one in Mexico.
Denis Shapovalov won the title on the hard courts in Los Cabos,
Alexander Bublik triumphed in Gstaad, while Luciano Darderi lifted the trophy in Bastad. They were the three champions of the past week.
Their trophies also meant significant moves in the ATP Rankings. Shapovalov moved up by five places, returning to the Top 30. He is now ranked 28th in the world. Bublik also returned to the Top 30, rising to the No. 30 place. Darderi improved his position by nine spots, ranking as the World No. 46.
There was also a change in the Top 10. That wasn't at the top, however, as
Jannik Sinner still leads the rankings. The Italian player has 12,030 points, which means a comfortable gap to the second-ranked
Carlos Alcaraz, who has 8,600 points.
Both withdrew from the upcoming Canadian Open.
Alexander Zverev, who is still third, lost 330 points, which he earned for reaching the Hamburg Open final last year. The German's total is now 6,030 points, which is 995 more than fourth
Taylor Fritz.
Jack Draper, who was among the players withdrawing from the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Toronto, remains fifth with 4,650 points, 520 points ahead of the next competitor.
That player is the 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic. The Serbian started his 900th career week in the Top 10 of the rankings. 428 of those weeks came at the World No. 1 spot, and only 75 outside of the Top 5 (including this one).
Aiming to push Djokovic even further down the rankings is a trio of players who have a similar number of points. Seventh
Lorenzo Musetti has 3,350 points, which is only 20 more than eighth
Ben Shelton.
Shelton is the only player in the Top 10 who moved up the rankings this week. He overtook
Holger Rune, who slid to the World No. 9 position after losing 100 points for reaching the quarter-finals in Hamburg last year.
Andrey Rublev, on the other hand, was the only Top 10 player who competed in the week after Wimbledon. He reached the semi-finals in Los Cabos, which earned him 100 points. Thanks to that, he now has 3,160 to his name.
There is a big fight for the last spots in the Top 10, as many players are close to returning to this elite company.
Frances Tiafoe,
Casper Ruud,
Alex de Minaur,
Daniil Medvedev, Tommy Paul, and
Karen Khachanov are players ranked 11th to 16th, and they all have previously been in the Top 10.
