Iga Swiatek played in one Olympics so far, and it's her dream to win a medal for Poland, but it will be tricky to do so in 2024.
Seasons when there are the Olympic Games inserted in the middle of the schedule are always tough and next year will be no different. They're going to be played in Paris on the Roland Garros courts, which will help many players in their preparation as they are courts that are familiar to them.
Having the Roland Garros take place before them will help as well, but the conditions will be different later on in the summer, after Wimbledon is played, forcing players to switch surfaces multiple times.
Having to go from clay courts to grass courts and then back to clay courts is rather complicated. Some players have already spoken about it. Swiatek talked about it in a recent interview with Eurosport Poland as well.
The Games, of course, are a priority, but it will be difficult to be in the optimal form specifically for this competition. If I wanted to do that, the preparation period would have to start during Roland Garros. (...) The calendar is very tight, and I have many important tournaments in front of me.
The Olympic Games are not the only priority for Swiatek, but considering how dominant she can be on clay, she's certainly among the group of players that looks likely to challenge for it. She has won three times in Paris so far, including this year, but it won't be the sole focus for her.
There is no point in thinking about it since the beginning of the season. After all, along the way we have the Australian Open, important events in the United States or Roland Garros. It is not that I practice a discipline in which the most important are the world championships and the games.
