'Truth Is There Was Little Time For Training': Swiatek Opens Up About Struggles In 2023

Iga Swiatek was not happy with how her US Open went, and she spoke a bit about that in a recent interview.

Swiatek is back home in Poland after a somewhat disappointing run in the United States. She failed to win either of the big three events, even though some assumed that she would at least make a final. That didn't happen either, as she was beaten by Jessica Pegula in Montreal.

Coco Gauff proved better at the WTA 1000 event in Cincinnati, and we all know what Jelena Ostapenko pulled off in New York. The results didn't happen by chance but rather have an explanation, one Swiatek provided in a recent interview with Eurosport Poland.

The truth is that there was little time for training. This is the second season in which I play the most matches of all the girls, and I suffered two injuries. It seems to me that if I was not the leader of the world ranking and I was 22 years old, I would have definitely more time to develop as an athlete.

Swiatek on her struggles

She has a fair point, and managing the schedule is something all players need to do. It's the key to remaining competitive for a very long time, which is certainly what Swiatek hopes to do. She confirmed that next year, she'll take a closer look at the calendar and plan it out better.

Next season we will definitely think about the calendar. I am the kind of player who clearly needs a solid week or two to polish the technique. Because there can always be a situation that this technique will crumble, panic begins and thoughts in the head of what to do to play better.

She's generally not a fan of the current calendar complaining about it a few times due to the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.
