The 2025
Monterrey Open is scheduled for the week before the 2025 US Open from August 18th to 23rd, and the
entry list for the tournament has been unveiled.
First played in 2009, there have been several notable winners of the
WTA 500 tournament. Two-time Grand Slam champion and former world No. 1 Garbine Muguruza, 2013 Wimbledon winner Marion Bartoli, and Ana Ivanovic have all secured the title.
Linda Noskova won her maiden WTA title at the 2024 iteration of the tournament. The 20-year-old defeated last year's Wimbledon quarterfinalist Lulu Sun in the final to confirm that achievement.
Noskova plans to defend her title. She is among the most talented young players in the women's game, and her powerful brand of tennis is challenging for most players to stop when it flows.
Three other former champions are on the entry list.
Donna Vekic was the 2023 winner, beating Caroline Garcia 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 in a thrilling match and will try to improve on her challenging season so far by performing well at this year's iteration.
Vekic's difficult 2025 continued at Wimbledon. Last year, she came within inches of a maiden Grand Slam final, losing to Jasmine Paolini in a deciding set tiebreak, but fell 1-6, 3-6 to Cristina Bucsa in the second round at the 2025 iteration.
A WTA 500 tournament without any Top 10 players on the entry list could be an ideal opportunity for the Croatian to improve her fortunes. Vekic signing up indicates that she is looking to find some momentum.
Former US Open runner-up
Leylah Fernandez was the 2021 and 2022 champion. The Canadian's 6-7, 6-4, 7-6 final victory against Camila Osorio in 2022 was probably the best and most dramatic final in the tournament's history.
Before the Monterrey Open, Fernandez
has her home tournament at the 2025 Canadian Open to play. A good result in front of her home fans could give the 22-year-old the necessary momentum to play well in Monterrey again.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova is the other former winner on the entry list. The recent Wimbledon quarterfinal defeated three-time major champion Angelique Kerber in three sets to triumph in the 2017 final.
Sofia Kenin, 2020 Australian Open winner, is the sole Grand Slam singles champion on the entry list. Although she has been inconsistent since then, the talent that brought her that stunning triumph in Melbourne remains.
Kenin has not won a title since the 2020 Lyon Open in March despite reaching four finals in the last five years. That includes the 2025 Charleston Open, losing to compatriot 3-6, 5-7 on the green clay in South Carolina.
Beatriz Haddad Maia is another player on the Monterrey Open entry list. She always receives incredible support from the Brazilian fans around the world, and that will almost certainly be the case again in Mexico.
The 2025 Queen's Club Championships winner
Tatjana Maria,
Diana Shnaider,
Elise Mertens,
Veronika Kudermetova,
Ekaterina Alexandrova, and
Anna Kalinskaya are some of the other names on the Monterrey Open entry list.
