Djokovic Wants To Prepare Well For 'Challenging' 2024 Olympics Due To Frequent Surface Change

Novak Djokovic has one major dream that he's yet to fulfil and that's to win the gold medal at the Olympic Games.

The Serb participated in several Olympics but never won a gold medal for Serbia, which remains one of his dreams. He was the number one favourite at the previous Olympic Games in Tokyo and looked impressive on the court, but then he suffered a shocking loss against Alexander Zverev.

It was a very strange match as Djokovic completely outplayed Zverev in the opening set but then completely shut down in the next two. That year, he also missed out on the calendar Grand Slam in New York by losing to Daniil Medvedev.

He avenged that loss this year by beating Medvedev and hopes to go all the way at the Olympic Games finally. It will be played on clay in Paris, courts he knows very well. He lifted a trophy on them several times in his career, including this year, though the undertaking will be very complicated.

He spoke a bit about it at his press conference in Valencia before his Davis Cup matches. In Djokovic's mind, the biggest obstacle will be the frequent surface change, something that most of the players will experience for the first time in their careers.

My plan is to play the next Olympic Games, so I hope to arrive physically and mentally prepared. I know that in 2024, we will have a very demanding schedule, with Roland Garros on clay, Wimbledon on grass, Olympics on clay, and the US Open on hard courts.

It will be a challenge for everyone, but this is my intention. The Olympic Games is the most important event in the history of sport, what you feel in this event is very particular, it cannot be compared to the rest of the tournaments.
