Andy Murray didn't have the best day at the 2024 Cinch Championships, as he seemed to deal with an injury that bothered him from the start of his match against Jordan Thompson.
Murray continued his 2024 season at the Cinch Championships, winning his first match at the ATP 500 event. He's playing his final weeks on the ATP Tour after admitting that either the Olympic Games or Wimbledon would be a fitting way to end his career.
He's been quite adamant about retiring from the sport for a while now, so obviously, this Queen's Club Championships was hugely special. He won the event five times in the past and ideally wanted to put on a good show in his final appearance.
The first-round win was solid, but he couldn't really produce a similar effort in the second round. He looked injured from the start of the match, seemingly struggling to move.
Only a few games in, Murray requested a medical timeout, which basically confirmed that he was dealing with some sort of physical issue related to his lower back.
It was clear that it was something left over from the previous match, as he struggled already during the warm-up. Thompson obviously took charge of the match, breaking his opponent's serve twice to lead 4-1.
He didn't play well because he didn't move well and looked to shorten the points, which Thompson smartly used against him by moving him around the court. After the Australian took a 4-1 lead, Murray took yet another medical time out after that.
He didn't really want to retire with all of his family and friends in attendance, but ultimately, he had to after a short talk with the doctor. It was an unfortunate end for Murray, who admitted just a few days ago that he really didn't want an injury to spoil these final few weeks.
