'I'm Same Person As I Was One Year Ago': Sinner Unbothered By Fame After Reaching No. 1 Rank

Jannik Sinner is world number one right now, which makes him more famous than he was last year, but he hasn't really changed much.

The Italian was one of the better-known players a year ago, but outside of tennis, not many really knew of him. He wasn't among the top players in the world and was still considered a talent who hadn't had his big breakthrough yet.

It changed in recent months as Sinner announced himself to the world by winning the Australian Open, a run that included a win over Novak Djokovic. He has since kept up that level, emerging as world number one after Roland Garros, which brought him even more fame.

A high-profile relationship with a fellow player, Anna Kalinskaya, certainly didn't do any harm either, but nothing really changed for Sinner. He's a fairly simple person who doesn't pay much attention to anything, which he confirmed to Tennis TV during the 2024 Halle Open.

"Me and my family and my people who I love and the friends we are always the same. It's just an achievement obviously everyone is happy and I am very lucky that I can share these things with them. But otherwise I'm the same person as I was one year ago or two years ago."

Sinner on increased fame

The Italian is very similar to Carlos Alcaraz in that regard because neither of them is really bothered by the fame. They're still the same ordinary people who just happen to be very well-known for something they do.

Sinner still spends time with his family and friends by going go-karting or playing cards, which is exactly what he did years ago before he was the number one on the ATP Tour.

"Me and my family and my people who I love and the friends we are always the same. It's just an achievement obviously everyone is happy and I am very lucky that I can share these things with them. But otherwise I'm the same person as I was one year ago or two years ago."
