Felix Auger-Aliassime won't compete at the upcoming 2023 Libema Open in 's-Hertogenbosch, withdrawing from the tournament.
After the Roland Garros finished on Sunday, the 22-year-old Canadian will drop out of the Top 10 on the ATP Tour and he'll need to chase some valuable points during the grass-court season if he wants to return to the elite ten once again.
However, after winning four titles in 2022 and finishing the year as the sixth highest-ranked player on the ATP Tour, the 2023 season has been a disappointment for Auger-Aliassime. During the clay-court season, he managed to win only one match and lost early also at the Roland Garros.
After the second Grand Slam of the season, he admitted to being sick and injured and trying to preserve his health and make sure to be fit for the remainder of the grass-court season is also the reason why the Canadian withdrew from the 2023 Libema Open.
Recently, the Canadian was recharging his batteries during a quick vacation mid-season, but he'll quickly want to return to the ATP action. The 2023 Libema Open still features a very strong entry list, but Auger-Aliassime's name won't be on it.
For Auger-Aliassime, as for every player, the main focus will be Wimbledon, so he will try to avoid making his injury and sickness even worse as he admitted to being really unlucky after his early first-round Roland Garros exit.
"Yeah. I mean, the shoulder is not great, but that wasn't the issue today. I got a bit sick last night, didn't really sleep. Yeah, sick all night. That's just a reality. I mean, I woke up this morning trying — I mean, it's like I've been struggling with a few things, and it's like, can you believe it, I get sick the day before my match?"
