Sloane Stephens has provided an update on the decision to freeze her eggs for the second time.
In May, Stephens initially opened up about family life with her husband, US soccer player Jozy Altidore, and how she wanted to freeze her eggs and about the possibility of motherhood. Also, the 30-year-old WTA player explained more about her views on becoming a mother and the difference between the demands of male and female reproduction.
During a recent exchange with a fan on her Instagram channel, Stephens was asked about the process of freezing her eggs. The world number 30 provided a clear and honest response and explained that she plans to go through with the process again once the 2023 season has concluded.
"My first time went well, I plan on doing it again in the off-season. It's really the only available time, I know what to expect this next time around, so I'll plan my schedule a bit differently and be able to adjust for the upcoming season accordingly. Family planning is great and I highly recommend egg freezing if it is feasible"- Stephens wrote on her Instagram profile
Stephens had previously spoken about her desire to have a big family, with options to adopt and utilise the surrogate process as viable options. However, the American star also shared how the thought of giving birth has been a source of anxiousness for her in the past.
"I've always said I want to carry a baby, have a surrogate and adopt. I want a lot of kids, but we will see what happens,"
"I've always been scared of childbirth, and since I was like 18, I've thought I'm definitely having a surrogate, like, this is what I'm putting my mind to, I'm going to freeze my eggs. And now, as I've gotten older and have read more about it, and really educated myself about the maternal mortality rate for black women – it's a very scary thing,"
