Draper Hopes Physical Problems Behind Him Ahead of Roland Garros

Draper Hopes Physical Problems Behind Him Ahead of Roland Garros

by Sebastian Dahlman

Jack Draper has played excellent tennis this year but the problem is that he rarely played due to various injuries.

Draper has been dealing with a lot of physical problems since becoming a professional on the ATP Tour, being unable to string together multiple weeks of tennis. He talked about it in the past and finally hopes that all of that is behind him ahead of a pivotal part of the season.

He made a return last week in Lyon after pulling out of Rome and played some solid tennis with the hope that it continues at Roland Garros and then hopefully the grass season. He showed a lot of promise on grass last year and Wimbledon will always be a dream for him.

I basically had a lot of scar tissue in my hip that wasn’t going away. And we couldn’t figure out what it was but we went and really looked at it and I’m on the right path with that now. So that has allowed me to get back on court and feel really good.

One thing that is noticeably absent from his resume are grand slams as he didn't get a chance to play many so far in his career. Building up that experience of playing best of five sets will be useful down the line, especially with his goals of winning grand slams in the future. The best run he had was at the US Open where he advanced to the 3rd round.

I’ve not had many opportunities to play loads of slams, to play the four sets, five sets and all that sort of thing. I’m still waiting to find that confidence in my body. I’ve got a lot of confidence in my tennis but I feel like I need more time. I haven’t played at all for so many weeks and stuff. I don’t know what’s going to happen this week. I have no idea. But all I know is that I’ve done all the right things the last six weeks.
