Alcaraz Not 'Overwhelming Favourite' At Roland Garros According To Bartoli

by Balasz Virag

Quite a lot of people consider Carlos Alcaraz the favourite for Roland Garros but Marion Bartoli doesn't think he's an overwhelming one.

Alcaraz has been really strong so far this year winning a couple of events including two big ones in Madrid and Indian Wells. The Spaniard has all the qualities needed to win Roland Garros and many consider him the favourite for the event.

Even Djokovic would put him ahead of himself but he's certainly not the only one. Alex Corretja sees him as the favourite, as do his Eurosport colleagues Tim Henman and Barbara Schett. Even so, for Marion Bartoli, he's not the overwhelming favourite because there are other contenders as well.

Alcaraz is one of the favorites but he's not the overwhelming favorite. No, I don't think so. There is not one player who stands out in the pack.

It's not a particularly shocking opinion to have because the vast majority of experts would agree with Bartoli. Alcaraz is first among the favourites but that doesn't mean there aren't other players who could win as well. For Bartoli, this year's Roland Garros is the widest open one in years and that's quite exciting for all the fans.

She has a list of five names who could win the event according to her and it's a pretty familiar list with players like Djokovic, Alcaraz, Rune, Medvedev and Tsitsipas who played in a final before. It's the same list most pundits would put forward if they had to name 5 favourites.

This is going to be the widest open Roland Garros we're going to have since Nadal's domination. I have picked five names who could win this year and they are Djokovic, Alcaraz, Holger Rune, Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas. I still feel like one of those players will be the winner but picking five names who could win the men's tournament has never happened in the past in almost 20 years.
