Ons Jabeur is one of the members of Novak Djokovic's PTPA and ahead of the 2023 Roland Garros, she shared their upcoming plans.
Ahead of the second Grand Slam of the season, Novak Djokovic, Vasek Pospisil, Ons Jabeur, Bethanie Mattek-Sands, Hubert Hurkacz, Saisai Zheng, Paula Badosa, and John Isner all met in Paris as part of the PTPA's Executive Committee.
The association has a lot of plans for the future, but all have one thing in common, to unite the players. Only recently, we saw a change of some ATP & WTA 1000 events, which are now played in a two-week format.
While some players support it, other don't and so that's also one of the things that PTPA wants to discuss, along with the difference in prize money, a topic that has been discussed many times before.
"We're trying to unite players and we were trying to have our own association to be heard. There is a lot of things going on with the two-weeks format, with the prize money, with a lot of things going on that I believe that players are not entirely taking what they deserve."
Ahead of the Roland Garros, he Tunisian revealed that she feels that players are not educated enough about everything that's going on in the world of tennis, and that's also one of the reasons why PTPA was created.
"I feel like it's time that so many players get educated in so many ways, because I feel like so many things they don't know about. It's a great thing."
Jabeur also said that while she can not share a lot, the whole point of the association is to unite tennis players, something that ATP & WTA Tours didn't really have a lot of success in.
"We talked about a lot of other things, so hopefully we can move forward coming on. I cannot say much about what's going on. But for me, the whole point is really to get tennis players united at least once, you know."
The Tunisian was then asked a very interesting question. As many topics in the world of tennis right now come from the disparity between the ATP & WTA Tour, she was asked how do players approach those topics as they are a mix of both.
"Yeah, and I believe the issue is not man or woman agreeing on things. I think it's bigger than that. I think it's for tennis in general. I think we need to be really united to have what we deserve as tennis players and as a sport. For the love of this sport I believe that we deserve more, you know, for us, for the fans, for the media, for everyone."
