Novak Djokovic quashed any injury worries with a stellar display against Vit Kopriva in the first round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.
The match Djokovic played at the Hurlingham Club a few days ago against Daniil Medvedev dispelled any questions regarding whether he'd be able to play at Wimbledon, and in his first-round match, he not only confirmed it but also showed that he can be once again considered as one of the favorites.
The Serbian underwent a meniscus surgery three weeks ago, but you wouldn't know that if you watched him play, apart from the obvious knee brace. There was nothing really indicating that anything was wrong with him, as he looked as good as ever.
The opponent wasn't known to be a very good grass player, as Kopriva mostly plays on clay. On top of that, facing the 24-time major winner is certainly something he's never done before, so he certainly had some added nerves as well.
More generally, Djokovic handled the best-of-five format really well. The proper test for me will be a match against someone like Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner, but fans at SW19 will have to wait a few more days for that.
As for this match, it started 6-1 for Djokovic in 34 minutes of play, as he dominated the Centre Court. The second set wasn't that complicated either, as he again outplayed his opponent, even though this time around, it was 'only' 6-2.
The final set showed a bit more fight from Kopriva, but it didn't matter that much in the grand scheme of things. Djokovic still broke his opponent midway through without any problems and then cruised to the finish line.
Overall, it was a really solid display from the second seed, who should look better and better with every match. His knee held up well, and he moved smoothly as well, winning the match 6-1, 6-2, 6-2.
