Some fans of the ATP Tour voiced their opinions after Novak Djokovic qualified for the 2022 ATP Finals some time ago, but he can prove them wrong at the last ATP 1000 event of the year.
The 35-years-old Serbian qualified for the 2022 ATP Finals thanks to winning this year's Wimbledon, where no points were awarded. However, according to many fans and some players as well, such as Cameron Norrie, it is unfair that Novak Djokovic benefited from the third Grand Slam of the season, while all other players couldn't.
However, thanks to his superb performances this year, Djokovic may still finish the ATP Race in Top 8 and therefore, he won't need to rely on the special rule, which granted him the entry previously.
Since Hubert Hurkacz and Taylor Fritz both lost at the 2022 Paris Masters already, the 21-time Grand Slam champion is now only 1 match away from surpassing them in the rankings and proving, he really deserves to participate at the 2022 ATP Finals.
In the third round of the last regular tournament of the season, Djokovic took on Karen Khachanov, who he beat already three times this year.
He continued in his dominance against the Russian also in the French capital by winning 6-4, 6-1 in an hour and 27 minutes. In the quarterfinals, he will take on Lorenzo Musetti, who took out the third-seeded Casper Ruud.
