Despite Challenging Season Auger-Aliassime Confident In Canada's Success At Davis Cup

by Sebastian Dahlman

Felix Auger-Aliassime was the MVP for Canada at last year's Davis Cup, and he's confident the country can do it again this year.

Felix Auger-Aliasasime had an amazing 2022 season, especially towards the end. He dominated the indoor part of the calendar, winning ATP trophies and leading his country to Davis Cup glory.

This year has been quite different for the Canadian. He found a late spark in Basel, winning the event again; however, his season overall looks very pale compared to last year.

We don't even have to dig deep to prove that, as a simple record comparison suffices. He won 64 matches last year while only 24 so far this year.

That's a huge difference, but even so, he's confident about Canada's chances at the Davis Cup. They will go as far as Auger-Aliassime will go and he was excited to return to the court again.

It was special to, yeah, to see the court again. It was such a special moment for me personally last year, winning the last match to clinch the title It's always nice to be back. Better for me to be back as reigning champions than the other way around, you know, if we had maybe lost that final.

Auger-Aliassime remembers the courts fondly

Auger-Aliassime is hopeful the county can do the same thing again despite him not playing as well as he did last year. He believes in himself and his teammates, and ultimately, it's one match at a time. You only have to win the next match, which keeps it simple enough.

Yeah, last year I came in very confident, playing some of the best tennis I have played so far in my career. This year has been more challenging, but yeah, I think the most important for me personally, I think for everybody here, is whenever we come as a team we always have a belief that we can win, and everybody has belief in their teammates, that they're able to win any given match.
