Carlos Alcaraz's Possibly Biggest Rival?: Meet His Brother Jaime

by Alfredo Bassanelli

Carlos Alcaraz is probably the best player on the ATP Tour right now, but he has a very talented brother who is apparently even better than him.

When you actually think about that, it makes no sense. How could anybody possibly be better than Carlos Alcaraz? He's already matched some pretty impressive records by becoming the youngest world number one ever in the ATP Rankings. It's not Roger Federer, it's not Rafael Nadal, it's not Novak Djokovic, it's actually Carlos Alcaraz.

He's also a two-time Grand Slam champion, having won his most recent one at Wimbledon by beating Novak Djokovic. So how could anybody possibly be better than Alcaraz? Well, it's all about potential. Jaime Alcaraz is a very talented tennis player, one that was described as being better than Alcaraz at the same age.

Whether that translates to the level of success of his brother remains to be seen because we've had super talents flame out in the pros before. There is a good chance it could work, we've seen this before with Serena Williams and Venus Williams and Mischa and Alexander Zverev.

Like Zverev, Jaime is around the Tour as he accompanies his brother at times, learning about the sport as a proper sponge. Alcaraz himself described his younger brother as having a better forehand than he had at his age. That's pretty scary.

To prove that all of that is not just smoke and mirrors, the younger Alcaraz won a trophy. He won the Rafa Nadal Tour in the under-12 category this year by winning five matches at the event. It's not the first time an Alcaraz won the event as Carlos Alcaraz won the under-14 event in 2016. If that is any indication, then we're going to see Jaime doing some great things in tennis moving forward.
