Holger Rune and Caroline Wozniacki, two of the most prominent Danish tennis players, crossed paths in Monaco and turned their encounter into a tennis practice session.
Caroline Wozniacki, who currently lives between Monaco, Denmark, and the United States, met up with Monaco resident Holger Rune, a fellow Dane who is fast-tracking his rise in the upper echelons of the sport. The two engaged in an intensive hitting session on a hard court.
Wozniacki shared their meetup on her social media platforms to the millions of tennis fans who are anticipating her comeback. A month ago, Wozniacki announced that she was coming out of retirement this summer for the first time since the 2020 Australian Open.
The Danish former world number one is taking a leaf out of her great friend Serena Williams' playbook and joins the gaudy list of returning mothers to the WTA tour. Judging by the trend and impact of returning mothers, Wozniacki can expect instant results.
"Danish duo practice today! Thank you Holger Rune for a great hit!"
However, Wozniacki, now 33, says her ambitions are more tailored to serving as a role model for her kids. Wozniacki famously won her first and only Grand Slam title at the 2018 Australian Open where she defeated Simona Halep in a nailbiting three-setter and later admitted she dreamed of the moment for many years.
At her absolute pomp, Wozniacki came up short in achieving her lifelong dream, and the jury was out there on whether Wozniacki would end up becoming the best women's player not to win a major. But that wasn't the case after her sensational run in 2018 which included match points saves during the tournament.
Wozniacki has received wild cards at WTA 1000 tournaments in Montreal and Cincinnati and was among the first confirmed wild cards for the 2023 US Open which begins later this month.
