The tennis world is buzzing with excitement as the Hopman Cup makes its much-anticipated return to the tennis calendar after a four-year hiatus.
The event will feature the world's top male and female players competing in mixed teams to represent their countries, and one of the most promising young talents in tennis, Carlos Alcaraz, has been announced among the first six players.
The 19-year-old Spanish player, currently ranked number two in the world, is set to headline the Spanish team alongside Paula Badosa. The two present a perfect combination of youth and already collected experience of winning big titles that can take the country far.
Hosts France will also be fielding a strong team, with Richard Gasquet and Alize Cornet representing their nation. Meanwhile, Switzerland will feature Belinda Bencic and Leandro Riedi, making for a competitive and exciting tournament.
The Hopman Cup is a unique event in tennis, offering a mixed-gender format that showcases some of the best male and female players in the world. Each country's team consists of a men's and women's singles match, followed by a mixed doubles match, with one point awarded for each win. The matches are played over the best of three sets, with a super tie-break deciding the winner in the third set.
The 2023 Hopman Cup will take place from Wednesday, July 19th to Sunday, July 23rd at the Nice Lawn Tennis Club. With some of the world's top tennis talent set to compete, the tournament promises to be a thrilling display of skill, athleticism, and sportsmanship.
"Alongside the Billie Jean King Cup and Davis Cup, the Hopman Cup is another ITF event that gives players the opportunity to represent their countries, and compete for something bigger than themselves. After a brief hiatus since 2019, we are delighted to return this event to the tennis calendar."
