Brazilian Genes And Tattoos: Berrettini Answers Most Asked Questions

Matteo Berrettini recently answered some questions for the ATP Challenger Tour during his stay in Phoenix.

The Italian made a comeback this year at the Arizona Tennis Classic, which is an ATP Challenger tournament in Phoenix that he won a few years ago.

It's a great place for him because he has so many good memories of playing there last year as well. It's been a long time since he last stood on a tennis court, which was also on American soil.

He rolled his ankle badly at last year's US Open and missed every event since then, with the Challenger tournament in Phoenix his first one since then. He's played well and also sat down with the ATP Challenger Tour for some questions, which were rather interesting.

The first one asked about his name and the way it's pronounced, as he has two Ts in his first name, Matteo.

"Is it 'Mateo' or 'Matteo'? Guys, two Ts, two Ts, Matteo. 'Mateo' I think is more like Spanish vibes. In Italy, we use a lot of double letters."

The next question was about tattoos, something that's not really prevalent among tennis players. It's more prevalent among the younger generations, and Berrettini has a few of them as well.

He joked that his grandmother doesn't like them, but he has 11 with more to come in the future.

"'Does Matteo Berrettini have tattoos?' Yeah, I have quite a lot. My grandma is not happy about it but I think I have 11. I have a feeling that it’s going to be more soon but yeah, I just love them so can't help it."

Often teased for his handsomeness, Berrettini also got a question about that. He didn't hide his embarrassment but credited his good genes for the way he looked.

"'Why is Matteo Berrettini so handsome?' Uhm… I think good genes. Brazilian genes in me, Italian. I didn’t do anything, it was just a gift I guess… so embarrassing."
