Ben Shelton will be making a stop in Estoril during the European clay season after he got the final main draw wild card of the event.
The Estoril Open has been a really fun stop for many tennis players over the years and there is a reason why Frances Tiafoe never misses the event. It's one of his favourite ones due to the reception he got and the fans who show up every time.
Ben Shelton will get to experience that for the first time in his career this year after accepting the final main draw wild card into the event. He'll join fellow compatriot Sebastian Korda at the event which has a much strong entry list than generally with Casper Ruud also attending.
Shelton broke out earlier this year at the Australian Open bringing his powerful game down under. Now he'll take it to the Westernmost country in Europe to show off just how well he plays clay tennis. His initial breakthrough came last year when he won back-to-back Challenger events in the US which allowed him to compete more often among the pros.
It should be a positive experience for the youngster who is eyeing a good initial showing on clay which he outlined in his essay recently. It comes at a time which is quite hectic with many moves happening off the court along with the fast pace of the tennis season in general.
His humble nature has been widely praised by pundits and fans alike as he emphasizes the need to improve and learn. Tennis is all he cares about right now and it's why many experienced tennis players are backing him to become the next big thing in the sport.
