'All Business': Ben Shelton Explains New Celebration After Japan Open

by Sebastian Dahlman

Ben Shelton finished off a great week at the 2023 Japan Open with his maiden ATP trophy, and he debuted a new celebration to mark it.

Ben Shelton is all about celebrations, and why not when he's actually as good as he is and is winning as much as he is? The American had a tremendous time in Asia, making his way to the Shanghai Masters quarter-final, which he followed up with an even better performance at the Japan Open.

He endured some close matches but ultimately found himself in the final, where he downed Aslan Karatsev in two sets to win his maiden trophy celebration.

We didn't see a huge celebration by Shelton who kept it cool immediately after the match but showed off a new celebration towards his team after shaking hands with Karatsev.

It wasn't the same celebration he made viral at this year's US Open but another one which is supposed to signal his 'all business' mindset. Shelton appeared to fix his imaginary tie and spoke about it after the match when the media asked him about it.

You know, this week, one of my friends here, [Mackenzie McDonald] was telling me about… he was like, ‘Yeah man, if you win, you should do this celebration where you act like you’re fixing your tie on your suit and hold a briefcase like, ‘It’s all business.’ So, I kinda did that a little bit after I shook hands with the ref.

The American didn't invent the phone celebration either, but he made it go viral so let's see if this one does as well. It's a pretty neat one, maybe not as iconic as the other one, but it doesn't matter. The most important thing is putting yourself in a position to actually do any celebration.
