Earlier today, reports suggested that Alexander Zverev should announce his withdrawal from the 2022 US Open and the German did it a few hours later.
When his semifinal match against Rafael Nadal ended in a catastrophic injury and retirement after 3 hours and 7 minutes, before the tie-break of the second set was played, Alexander Zverev had one of his best Grand Slam tournaments at the 2022 Roland Garros.
The German had surgery, but he frequently stated that if he recovered quickly, he would compete in the 2022 US Open. The newest information, however, is that Alexander Zverev won't be able to participate in the fourth Grand Slam of the season.
Previously, world number 2 said: "Of course I will still try to make the US Open,” Zverev said at a press conference in Hamburg. “Although it will be very, very close. Maybe I could say I'm ready. Best-of-five is difficult. Every day it really gets better. That's why I don't want to say yet that I won't play the US Open."
Zverev didn't compete in any tournaments prior to the US Open, so even if he were to arrive in good time with his recovery, his chances of going far in the tournament would be very slim. This is because it typically takes a lot of time and preparation in order to be at your best before a major competition.
