According to the German newspaper BILD, Alexander Zverev will announce that he will not compete at the 2022 US Open already today, on Monday.

Alexander Zverev played one of his best Grand Slam tournaments at the 2022 Roland Garros when his semifinal match against Rafael Nadal ended with a horrific injury and a retirement after 3 hours and 7 minutes, before the tie-break of the second set was played.

The German had to undergo a surgery and many times he expressed his intentions to play the 2022 US Open if he recovers on time. However, according to the latest information, it seems that Alexander Zverev won't be able to compete at the fourth Grand Slam of the season and his announcement should come already today.

Previously, world number 2 said: "Of course I will still try to make the US Open,” Zverev said at a press conference in Hamburg. Although it will be very, very close. Maybe I could say I'm ready. Best-of-five is difficult. Every day it really gets better. That's why I don't want to say yet that I won't play the US Open."

However, Zverev didn't play any tournament before the US Open and even if he would make it on time with his recovery, his chances of making a deep run would be very slim as it usually takes a lot of time and lead-up tournaments to get in top-form ahead of such a big event.
