The 2024 Australian Open men's draw was released, and the fans will be happy to find many exciting matchups in it.
Running from January 14th to 28th, 2024, with the first-ever Sunday start, the 2024 Australian Open, is shaping up to be one of the most exciting tournaments in a very long time, even though Rafael Nadal was forced to withdraw from the event.
Even without the 22-time Grand Slam champion in the draw, there are still many exciting storylines to follow during the first major of the new season, and his rival's bid to win record-extending 11th title will be one of them.
Novak Djokovic is without a doubt the biggest favourite heading into the tournament, and his fans will be hoping that his wrist injury scare is a thing of the past as the top seed enters his title defense.
As the first seed at the tournament, Djokovic will start against a qualifier in the first round. He will certainly look only at his following match, and as players often say, "take it one match at a time" but if he wanted to have a look on the other side of the draw, he would see the name of his possible final challenger, Carlos Alcaraz.
As the second seed, the young Spaniard naturally appears on the other side of the draw, and it will be his first appearance in Melbourne Park since 2022 when he was forced to withdraw from the last year's event.
In his first match since third-round loss to Matteo Berrettini in 2022, the young Spaniard will take on Richard Gasquet, who will want to challenge the second seed, who was beaten by Alex de Minaur in a charity match at the Rod Laver Arena.
Even though Djokovic and Alcaraz will certainly be the two of the most followed players at the event, there are many more names to keep an eye on, and two of them are certainly the third and the fourth seeds, Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner.
The Russian knows how it feels to play the final in Melbourne, however, he doesn't know how it feels to win a trophy at the Australian Open. He will try to change that in 2024, starting against a qualifier in the opening round.
On the other hand, Sinner is yet to play a major final in his career, but after a breath-taking end of his 2023 campaign, he will be one of the favourites to win in Australia, but Botic van de Zandschulp will want to prove him wrong in the first round.
With four main favourites being the top four seeds, there are also many players that could be considered dark horses, and one of them is certainly Alexander Zverev, who carried Germany to the United Cup win.
The German will be the sixth seed at the tournament, and he'll start against fellow compatriot Dominik Koepfer in the first round. Stefanos Tsitsipas, on the other hand, is the last year's finalist, and he will want to repeat, or even improve, his feat this year, starting the tournament against Matteo Berrettini.
The list of title contenders would be just too long as there are currently many players on the ATP Tour who are really competitive, and the draw also includes names such as Holger Rune, Andrey Rublev, Hubert Hurkacz, and Ben Shelton, so be sure to check out the full draw below to see all of the first-round matches and further possible matchups.
