As tennis fans anticipate the release of Season 2 of Netflix's tennis docuseries Break Point next year, the production team is already setting sight for a follow-up season.

But according to Craig Shapiro, production works for Season 3 have stalled for what he called a "lack of cooperation" from some of the top stars in the sport, notably Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Coco Gauff, whose absences have been prevalent in the show thus far.

Season 1 of Break Point was released this year, in two parts, each consisting of five episodes, and gives viewers an unprecedented behind-the-scenes look at life on the ATP and WTA tours. It gets up close and personal with the players all year, showcasing the next wave of talent in the sport.

"Being told Break Point is tracking to be all done after this season airs. Lack of cooperation from Novak Rafa and Coco in particular has kneecapped the series."
Craig Shapiro wrote on X (formerly Twitter)

Earlier this year, Break Point was renewed for a second season, which will be released in 2024. The show has been positively received in its first season, although several fans have shared their discontent on social media.

The conspicuous storytelling gaps do exist and it will be fascinating to see whether these will be addressed in the second season. The producers have certainly worked to get the big names to feature at some point, but their efforts have proved futile, particularly after a year of many storylines.

Djokovic, winner of three of the four Grand Slams, would have been worthy of getting a whole episode to break down the high points of his season.

Likewise for Coco Gauff, who won a maiden Grand Slam at the US Open. Rafael Nadal's injury-ravaged season ought to have given fans a fascinating insight into his life outside the tour.

ATP player Reilly Opelka has previously shared his honest thoughts about the series, calling it "boring" as he felt that the content was "censored" in tennis and doesn't quite delve into the deeper aspects of the sport, much like what happened while shooting Formula One's Drive to Survive.
