Vondrousova Thrashes Kenin And Halts US Celebrations At Billie Jean King Cup Finals

| by Evita Mueller

Marketa Vondrousova did what she was supposed to do by beating Sofia Kenin to keep her Czech Republic in play at the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup Finals.

The last time we saw Marketa Vondrousova play was recently at the WTA Finals, where she played pretty badly, but she didn't like the court very much there.

Back in Europe and indoors, Vondrousova looked much more comfortable in a must-win match for her Czech Republic. Danielle Collins gave the US its first point in this crucial tie, but now it's 1-1.

The doubles a bit later will determine who moves on to the semi-finals, and the Czech Republic will have Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova on the courts, a very strong doubles team.

When it comes to this match, it was pretty much a no-contest. The Czech player proved her status as one of the best players this year by completely smashing Kenin, who looked a bit tired after a really long match yesterday.

Kenin simply couldn't do anything against Vondrousova, who is generally a tough out for many players. She has very precise games that force you in the corner, making it very hard to really impose any kind of dominance in rallies.

Kenin struggled greatly with that as she posted a really ugly stat line of 10 winners and 37 unforced errors, which was the main reason for the swift defeat.

Vondrousova was pretty decent, with 21 winners and 19 unforced errors. The final score was 6-1 6-1 as she awaits what happens in the doubles. If Krejcikova and Siniakova win, then the Czech Republic moves on, but if Americans win, they go through.

That's what made this match a must-win for Vondrousova, and she certainly delivered. Stick with us to find out what happens in the doubles, and we'll have a report for you ready.
