'To See If I Could Guard Her': Gauff Could See Herself Challenging Caitlin Clark In Another Life

Coco Gauff could have imagined herself playing basketball and trying to guard superstar Caitlin Clark in another life.

The 20-year-old American is a great athlete who is naturally gifted but also worked to become one of the best tennis players in the world. There is not much you can't accomplish when you combine talent with hard work, and Gauff is an example of that.

She's also made history in many ways and is still very young, with a chance to make more. However, there is a universe or another life where she ended up in another sport, possibly basketball, as her father is a huge fan of the sport, and she likes it, too.

She was actually asked about competing against the rising star of women's basketball, Caitlin Clark, after her second-round win at the 2024 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.

"Yeah, it's funny because my dad was actually talking about that. He was, like, You would have been right up there. You would have been a sophomore. I would have had you shooting Js and everything."

Gauff on playing basketball

Gauff ultimately chose tennis, and it worked out pretty well for her. There is a chance she might have ended up as a really good basketball player if she had really chosen that, but as her career so far showed, it's worked out pretty well for her with tennis.

" Yeah, I don't know if I would be that type of player, but I will say if I could go in another life I would love to play on the same time as Caitlin Clark just to see if I could guard her. Obviously now I definitely couldn't, but I don't know, if I trained for it, just to see."

Her Porsche Tennis Grand Prix started on a tough note, but she was still able to win. She has a high ambition for this clay season, so winning her first match was very important.
