Svitolina Shuts Down Inappropriate Question About Sabalenka After Wimbledon Loss

Elina Svitolina lost to Marketa Vondrousova in the Wimbledon semi-final, and she quickly shut down a question about Aryna Sabalenka in the post-match press conference.

Elina Svitolina has been quite open about her thoughts on last year's Wimbledon ban ultimately falling on the side that it's the right thing to do. She campaigned earlier this year to have them banned from the Olympic games as well though that seems very unlikely to happen.

Her reaction to Wimbledon lifting the ban was hilarious, and she certainly backed up her words with a run to the semi-final run. Unfortunately, she missed out on the final for a second time at Wimbledon. She was visibly disappointed after her loss to Vondrousova though that didn't stop a reporter from asking rather unnecessary question.

The Ukrainian was asked about her thoughts on Aryna Sabalenka possibly winning the event and the image of the Wimbledon trophy being passed to the hands of a Belarusian by the Princess of Wales. She was in no mood to talk about Sabalenka or any possible controversy, shutting down the question swiftly.

To be fair, I didn't really think about this at all. Right now I'm not in a good state of mind to reply to these questions. I will not be here. Yeah, I'm just upset that I'm not playing and not taking that trophy from her.

Svitolina responding to the repoter

They have some recent history having played at Roland Garros recently. Sabalenka won that match and waited for Svitolina on the net despite being fully aware that the Ukrainian was not going to shake hands with her.

Svitolina even expressed confusion about the move by Sabalenka as the Belarusian explained her side of the story after that match. In any case, neither of them ultimately secured the final as the Belarusian threw away a huge lead against Ons Jabeur.
