It seemed that Sofia Kenin may return to the sport during the grass-court season, but the American has postponed her comeback once again.

Over two years have passed since Kenin stunned the tennis world at the 2020 Australian Open. Her incredible run to the title in Melbourne included triumphs against Coco Gauff, Ashleigh Barty, and Garbine Muguruza.

She then reached the final of the French Open during the same season. She finished as the runner-up to Iga Swiatek, who claimed her second title at Roland-Garros this year by winning her 35th match in a row against Coco Gauff in the final.

Kenin was just 21-years-old during those two memorable runs that made her known worldwide. That increased expectations of her among many in the media, who felt she was set to challenge for Grand Slams regularly.

Unfortunately, the last 18 months have been difficult for Kenin. Due to a combination of loss of form and injuries, Kenin has tumbled down the rankings. She currently sits outside the Top 300.

After winning two matches to start the 2022 season in Adelaide, Kenin lost her next six matches. Her faltering year was then halted by an ankle injury she sustained during her Indian Wells Open loss to Beatriz Haddad Maia.

Sadly, Kenin's fans will not see her back on the court in the immediate future. Some would have hoped that she would return after over three months out at Wimbledon, but that is not going to happen.

That reality is now official after Kenin withdrew from the entry list at SW19. The 23-year-old has struggled at Wimbledon more than any other Grand Slam, failing to get past the second round in her previous appearances in London.

Kenin will not get a chance to improve on that record this year. It is unknown when she is likely to return to the sport. Hopefully, it will be soon since Kenin's game is terrific to watch when it is flowing.
