Sabalenka Admits To 'Not Feeling Physically Well' After Surprisng Montreal Exit

Aryna Sabalenka didn't feel all that great in her match against Liudmila Samsonova at the 2023 Canadian Open, admitting to struggling physically after the match.

You didn't have to be a tennis expert to notice that Aryna Sabalenka was struggling through the match against Samsonova. The Belarusian didn't play her best tennis and didn't look all too comfortable for much of it, either.

Speaking after the loss, Sabalenka admitted that she didn't enjoy the conditions in Montreal today, struggling physically for most of the match. She didn't go too in-depth as to what bothered her, but you could see it in the way she played the match. Samsonova looked physically superior because she pretty much was.

Yeah, I mean, we're all in the same conditions. Not like all. Only four of us. But it is how it is, and I didn't deal well with these conditions. Next time I'll try a little better.

Yeah, I would say that because physically I didn't feel well, so I wasn't able to move as good as I could, to serve as good as I could, so this was the toughest one for me today.

Despite all of that Sabalenka stayed in the match until the end which is a positive. She remained positive in defeat, admitting that she can learn something from the experience while still recognizing the disappointing nature of her match.

Yeah, it was a really tough match. She played unbelievable tennis. Unfortunately, physically I wasn't ready to play at my highest level today, but I'm still happy with the level I showed. More likely the fighting spirit than the level.

She won't have to wait for a very long time to try and do better, as the Cincinnati Masters is around the corner. Hopefully, she'll feel better there and we'll see her return to her usual level.
