Naomi Osaka will make her comeback in 2024, but Martina Navratilova warned her about taking things too fast.
Everybody is looking forward to the comeback of Naomi Osaka, which is apparently less than two months away. She confirmed the Brisbane International as the first event back which is less than two months away.
All attention will be on the Australian Open, as she has a tremendous track record at the event. Like many, Martina Navratilova, who spoke to WTA, is excited to see what it will look like.
Nobody really knows what to expect, but we do know that she's been practicing for a while now and hired back her former coach, so the team is back together. Even so, the legendary former player doesn't think everything will go smoothly.
I’m really looking forward to seeing how this all unfolds. After the layoff, it’s going to take her time to get her match legs underneath her, the confidence flowing again. I just hope that she takes it slower, rather than too fast.
Very few players can really be competitive after a long break and Navratilova doesn't expect that from Osaka. In her mind, the Sunshine Double in March looks like a realistic timeframe for when she'll start playing better tennis.
I’m thinking by Indian Wells, early March, she’ll be back in the mix, back to being her amazing self. She won the title there in 2018. It would be great for the sport to see her back at the top.
According to reports, Osaka is very motivated, but we won't know whether that's true until the Australian Open. She might be but it's been a really long time since we've seen her on a tennis court.
There is just too much unknown right now, and she didn't really inspire anybody with her play shortly before getting pregnant, so time will tell.
