Naomi Osaka likes to express her thoughts on Twitter, but this time, it backfired after the four-time Grand Slam champion tweeted about finances.
In 2022, Osaka was the best earning female athlete when she's projected to earn more than $60 million this year. Her financial success comes mostly thanks to various endorsements, sponsorships, and business activities.
On the tennis courts, the former WTA World No. 1 player hasn't earned a lot in prize money, but thanks to her incredible brand power, she was able to earn tens of millions of dollars outside of the tennis courts.
However, despite being a millionaire, Osaka recently posted a bit tone-deaf tweet. In her tweet, the Japanese player said that she wished her parents were rich so she didn't have to feel like she was working for their survival.
"Sometimes I wish my parents were rich so I don't have to feel like I need to work for everyone's survival."
Osaka is known as a very humble player, and it was shocking for fans to see this tweet from her. Especially because of Osaka's net worth and the fact that she was the best-earning female athlete this year, many thought this tweet was inappropriate, including the tennis reporter Chris Goldsmith, who tweeted:
"When Naomi Osaka says work, she obviously means Instagram posting. This is a shocker of a tweet..."
But many others joined him, as they were stunned by Osaka's tweet: "How are you a multimillionaire & you’re complaining about supporting your parents. People support their families with much less."
Another fan joined the discussion, tweeting: "It is a shocker, there a billion women who are in the position, some who earn in a year what she earns in 5 mins. It's a privilege to be in a position to able to help others."
After a few hours, Osaka took down the tweet and so one of her most recent tweets remains to be maybe also an answer to fans.
"I’m really at peace with myself. I didn’t think I would ever feel like this, it’s kinda fascinating lol."
