Maria Sakkari Starts Milestone 100th Week In Top 10

Maria Sakkari has been a very consistent player in terms of her performances, even with the lack of silverware.

Maria Sakkari has been part of the Top 10 on the WTA Tour for a while now. The Greek player first entered the Top 10 in September of 2021, and since then, she's spent 100 weeks ranked inside the Top 10. Much of that concerns her consistent performance since then, though some minor luck was involved.

Staying healthy was a huge thing for Sakkari as she generally doesn't deal with many injuries. She trains pretty much more than any other player and enjoys that part very much and that likely contributed to her health.

After entering the 10 in 2021, Sakkari spent the entirety of 2022 ranked inside the Top 10. She moved around going up and down but she never lost her spot in the Top 10. That's pretty tough to do considering how quickly the sport changes.

This year has been a bit similar as Sakkari came is very close to leaving the Top 10 for the first time in over a year. She dropped down to number 10 on March 19th and it came after she failed to back up her tremendous performances from the Sunshine Double last year.

She quickly stabilised returning to number 8th where she stands right now as well. This week marks 100 weeks in the Top 10 for Sakkari, a huge milestone though also one that would be better with some silverware. She's notoriously struggled in finals before and endured another painful loss at the Citi Open recently.

She contest her first final in a long time but lost to Coco Gauff. Either way, it allowed her to keep her streak going and let's see how far she comes. She's been very consistent, but this year has been largely disappointing.
