'I Feel Latina': Badosa Fond Of Latin American Culture
She was born in New York and raised in Barcelona, but Paula Badosa admitted she "feels" Latina and identified with the Latin American culture and community.
Even though she has never been to many Latin American countries, Badosa's travel wish list is to visit each one of them as she has a soft spot for those countries. In a post on Instagram, Badosa revealed that she has had her best memories there.
Latina America consists of countries in the Caribbean, most of Central and South America, and of course Mexico. The term "Latin America" was coined by a French Emperor in the 19th century and these countries have retained the languages and many aspects of their former colonies - France, Spain, and Portugal.
The Spanish language is one of the reasons why Badosa has a connection with the Latin American community. Badosa's last trip to Mexico wasn't quite as memorable, as she retired from the WTA 1000 tournament in Guadalajara in 2022 due to illness. Prior to that, she had reached the semifinal at the 2021 WTA Finals, which was also staged in the same city in Mexico.
"Latin America is a part of me. I feel Latina and identify with all the Latino culture and community. My best memories are always there! I still have countries to visit, but I will visit each one of them because each one is a part of my heart. Up those Latinos."
The 25-year-old has a forgettable 2023 campaign, with injuries limiting her to just 27 appearances, and was forced to shut down her season prematurely on the eve of this year's US Open.
Badosa has been battling a spinal stress fracture for many months and was forced to abandon her second-round match at Wimbledon due to that injury.
Remarkably, she could still play a part this year, after she was selected to play at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals for Spain next month. The tournament hosts have been placed in the same group as Poland (who will be without Iga Swiatek) and the Leylah Fernandez-led Canada team.
