Injured Sabalenka Withdraws From Charleston Open

Aryna Sabalenka won't be competing at the 2023 Charleston Open as the injury stopped her from doing so, and she withdrew from the tournament.

Sometimes, the schedule of tennis players can become just too hectic, especially if injuries occur, and that's exactly what Sabalenka experienced after two deep runs during the Sunshine Double.

First, she played in the final at Indian Wells, and then, she was stunned in the Miami Open quarterfinals, but still, her runs at the two WTA 1000 tournaments were deep enough for them to take toll on her body.

Already during her campaign in Miami, the Belarusian spoke about an injury that was bothering her, and soon after her loss, the World No. 2, and currently the leading player of the 2023 WTA Race, announced that she won't be competing at the upcoming Charleston Open, a clay-court tournament in the United States.

"Sad to announce that I have to withdraw from Charleston! I picked up an injury during one of my matches in Miami and I need time to rest and heal. I’m so sorry to the tournament and the fans. I was really looking forward to being back and playing in front of you all!"

The event is set to be played from April 3rd to 9th in Charleston, South Carolina, United States, and the entry list includes the likes of Jessica Pegula, Ons Jabeur, and Belinda Bencic.

It's the first WTA 500 clay-court event of the season, and it would serve as a great chance for Sabalenka to prove her qualities on this surface, but surely her health comes first, and that's why she has decided to prioritize it.

Now, Sabalenka's focus will shift to the 2023 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, where she's set to compete alongside the likes of Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, and Coco Gauff, after losing in the final of the tournament last year.
