Some two months after Iga Swiatek defeated Karolina Muchova in the Roland Garros final we'll be seeing the rematch at the Canadian Open.
That Roland Garros final was an odd one because Swiatek looked under a lot of pressure which she confirmed by admitting it was the hardest to win. Muchova had a pretty decent chance to win the match but faltered towards the end.
She'll have a chance to exact revenge when they face later today at the Canadian Open in Montreal. Swiatek is obviously favoured, largely because she's considered the better player but she's also coming off of a strong win against Pliskova and a trophy in Warsaw.
Muchova did well in her first two matches as well beating solid players in straight sets which bodes well for the matchup. She has the tools to trouble Swiatek and if she can bring her best serve to this one it might be an interesting one.
Head-to-head:
The head-to-head actually favours Muchova as she leads 2-1. The Roland Garros win was the first time Swiatek defeated Muchova. The conditions here might favour Muchova a bit more especially if she brings her best serve.
Prediction:
Swiatek had problems with the serve at Roland Garros but also with the variety. She generally likes to trade blows from the baseline which allows her to play herself into a great rhythm and good luck with outhitting her then.
Muchova won't play like that as she'll incorporate some other things to throw her opponent off. It might work for her but the serve will be huge. If she can put a lot of pressure on Switek with her serve she'll unlock how both Rybakina and Sabalenka defeated the number one earlier this year. Tough one to call but I think Swiatek will still prevail.
Prediction: Iga Swiatek to win in three sets.
