'Not Far Away': Wozniacki Happy With Comeback To Tennis Despite Early Loss

Caroline Wozniacki's comeback was cut short by Marketa Vondrousova in the second round of the 2023 Canadian Open, but the Danish player was happy with her effort.

Nobody really expected Wozniacki to do much in her first WTA event back, but she actually did plenty. Her first match was a pretty good one as she cruised in two sets. The second one saw her take on a Top 10 ranked player, a Grand Slam champion, and she held her own for the most part.

Ultimately she lost, and that's disappointing, but there are many positives that she can take from that match. Her tennis is good and will get better with every match. Her stamina is not that great but will also get better with every match, so she's content with how it went.

Yeah, it was a tough match today. Obviously, it didn't go the way I'd hoped, but at the end of the day I think there was a lot of positives I can bring with me. I think in periods I played very well, and then in others I made a few too many unforced errors. All in all, I'm going in the right direction.

On the match against Vondrousova.

The obvious goal for the comeback was always to go out and try to win trophies. It's a tough thing to do but with a few events under her belt, Wozniacki could contend. US Open is a target and overall, this was a good step towards that goal.

I think it's good. I won my match yesterday. I played today against someone who just won Wimbledon. I feel like first set was 6-2, but I really think it was closer than that. There was a lot of missed opportunities from me.

She played well in those moments, and that comes from playing a lot of matches. I think in the second set it was close. Again, you know, with more matches under my belt, I think I'm right there. I'm not far away, and I'm just going to build on that.
