The Polish player failed to break through Andreescu in the first set but she utterly smashed her in the 2nd to reach the semifinal 7-6(2) 6-0.
Swiatek won last year's edition of Rome and she is well on her way to do it again. Andreescu has played a superb event so far this week but today she ran into a riddle she could not solve. The first set was a great one as both players played rather well, especially Andreesuc who flashed some of her full potential. The Canadian took the early 2-0 lead but Swiatek battled back to 2-2.
We saw a couple of more breaks but ultimately the first set was settled in the tiebreak. Swiatek had a chance to close it out at 5-4 when she served for the set but she failed to do it. She did close it out in the tiebreak where she outplayed Andreescu who rushed and missed a lot. That trend continued in the 2nd set as well as Andreescu was eroding rather quickly.
One mistake after another gave Swiatek an early lead and after that, it was cruise control for the Polish player. True to being number one Swiatek smashed her opponent in the 2nd set with 6-0 to move on to the semifinal. She has now won 26 matches in a row and it is still unclear whether any player will be able to stop her.
