Rafael Nadal has been dealing with foot pain for much of his career, but to manage the pain during the 2022 Roland Garros, he will bring a doctor with him.
The Spaniard was born with a problem in his foot which has given him pain for much of his career. While he has been able to overcome it for much of his career, the Spaniard hasn’t been able to deal with it the way he would like to.
A clear example of that was the most recent match Nadal played against Denis Shapovalov where his foot clearly bothered him. He wasn’t able to move as well as he had hoped, and to avoid those issues at the upcoming Roland Garros, Nadal will bring a doctor with him.
The Spaniard is the most iconic performer when it comes to the French Open, and the event will always be the main target of the season for him. To get the best out of that event, he simply has to try everything in his power.
Bringing a doctor with him gives him options as far as his foot goes, so it makes perfect sense to do it, and he confirmed that the doctor will be present with him ahead of the clay-court major.
"First thing that I need to do is to [not] have pain to practise, that's it… It's true that during the French Open, Roland Garros, I’m going to have my doctor there with me. That sometimes helps because you can do things."
As with any injury that is chronic, there are better and worse days. Nadal takes both of those days for what they are and tries to make the most out of it.
"In the positive days and in the negative days, you need to stay and to value all the things that happened to me in a positive way. Then days like today (Thursday), just accept and try to keep going even if sometimes it's not easy for me."
