Iga Swiatek is enjoying a historic run as she won her 26th match in a row, this time beating Bianca Andreescu at the 2022 Italian Open, which is a WTA 1000 tournament in Rome.

Swiatek has been improving as a player for a while, but what she’s been able to do in recent weeks has been unprecedented. The Polish player started this winning streak a few months ago at the Qatar Open in Doha.

She went on to win that event, but that was not the last event she won this year. Her streak continued in Dubai, which is another tournament she won during this impressive winning streak.

She then won the Indian Wells Open and the Miami Open, completing the famed Sunshine Double in the United States. That incredible streak didn’t stop once she moved to clay, of course, because clay is her best surface.

She won two matches in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers and then won the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart. Finally, she moved to Rome for the Italian Open, where she won two more matches and now added her third win at the event, beating Bianca Andreescu.

This win is her 26th win in a row, which is an incredible number of matches won in a row in tennis. Being consistent is one of the biggest challenges in the sport, and she’s been incredibly consistent over the past few weeks, winning so many matches but also events, which is not easy.

Swiatek won last year's edition of the Italian Open as well, and she is well on her way to doing it again. Andreescu has played a superb event so far this week, but in this match, she ran into a riddle she could not solve.

The first set was a great one as both players played very well, especially Andreescu, who flashed some of her full potential. The Canadian took the early 2-0 lead but Swiatek battled back to 2-2.

Both players managed to steal each others' serve multiple times, but ultimately, the first set was settled in a tie-break. Swiatek had a chance to close the set out at 5-4 when she served for the set but she failed to do it.

She did close it out in the tie-break, though, as she outplayed Andreescu, who rushed and missed a lot. That trend continued in the second set as well, as Andreescu kept piling up mistakes.

One mistake after another gave Swiatek an early lead and after that, the Polish player was able to easily control the proceedings of the match. True to being the World No. 1 player, Swiatek bested her opponent in the second set.

She has now won 26 matches in a row, and it is still unclear whether any player will be able to stop her. It’s an incredibly remarkable streak, even though not that surprising, because she already showed a very high level at the Australian Open, where she narrowly missed out on the final.

She’s also the number one player in the world and quite deservedly so. She won this match 7-6(2), 6-0, moving to the semi-final of the WTA 1000 tournament.
