Emma Raducanu will join team of Great Britain at the Billie Jean King Cup finals in Glasgow, Scotland as the highest-ranked player.
12 teams, divided into four groups, will compete in the 2022 Billie Jean King Cup finals, which will take place from November 8 to November 13. Great Britain presented its national squad on Monday, which consists of Emma Raducanu, Harriet Dart, Katie Boulter, and Heather Watson. They will compete in Group C against Kazakhstan and Spain.
Since the 2021 US Open champion has recently struggled with injuries and withdrew from the 2022 Transylvania Open in Cluj-Napoca, there have been questions about Emma Raducanu's ability to lead the team since her nomination. However, team captain Anne Keothavong believes time will play a crucial role.
"I was literally on the phone to her this morning at the airport," said Keothavong. "We have the benefit of time on our side. The Billie Jean King Cup Finals isn't for another month. She's doing her best to rest up and recover and she's got a rehab programme in place."
"We'll just have to see how it goes and she's got to manage it and look after herself, which is the most important thing. I know she really wants to be part of this team, she had a great experience when we were in Prague," said Keothavong referring to Raducanu's last two Billie Jean King Cup matches in Prague. "That's great when you've got your top player who is saying all the right things."
