Emma Raducanu picked up another injury, which will likely end her 2022 season. She was forced to withdraw from the 2022 Transylvania Open in Cluj.
The 2021 US Open champion was set to compete at the 2022 Transylvania Open in Cluj, where she also played last year. Raducanu has Romanian roots, which is why she always happily returns to the country where her father was born.
However, after retiring from her semi-final match against Jelena Ostapenko at the Korea Open in Seoul and losing to Daria Kasatkina in her first match at the Ostrava Open, Raducanu announced that she's not fit to compete in Romania.
On Thursday, the tournament organizers released a statement that announced Raducanu's withdrawal. According to the statement, the former WTA World No. 10 player can't compete because of "an injury," which was not specified.
"Unfortunately, Emma will not be with us at this edition of the Transylvania Open, due to an injury. We know that many fans wanted to see the player with Romanian origins on the court, and we would have liked to offer them this experience."
"However, tennis is unpredictable, and in such situations, the only solution is recovery. We wish Emma the best of health and get back on the field as soon as possible."
As of now, Raducanu is not signed up for any other tournaments this year, and since she won't qualify for the 2022 WTA Finals, her season is most probably officially over.
However, she will start her next season very early as she's set to meet Ons Jabeur at a prestigious exhibition event in Abu Dhabi.
The 2022 Mubadala World Tennis Championship features a star-studded entry list that includes the likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud. Raducanu is also one of the players that will compete, as she will take on Jabeur in the only women's match in Abu Dhabi.
