Nick Kyrgios reached quarterfinals at seven out of the last nine tournaments he played and one of the two unsuccessful tournaments ended because of his withdrawal.
If there's one word to sum up the 2022 season of Nick Kyrgios, it's consistency. The 27-years-old Australian reaches at least quarterfinals almost everywhere he appears and that's also one of the reason why he keeps climbing up the ATP Rankings. At the 2022 Japan Open in Tokyo, he will also play quarterfinals, making it his eighth out of the last ten tournaments.
After defeating Chun Hsin Tseng in the first round, he took on Kamil Majchrzak from Poland in the second. The Pole had a better start of the match when he got an early break that granted him a 3-0 lead in the first set and never allowed his opponent to have a break point in the first set.
Therefore, after winning 80% of points after his first serve and remaining really solid, he won the first set in 27 minutes, 6-3.
The second set started also better for Majchrzak as he had a chance to break his opponent again. However, that was the turning point for Kyrgios, who shifted gears and lost only four more points on his serve in the remainder of the match.
He used two out of four break points he had in the second set two win it 6-2 and tie the score. In the third set, the Australian hit 84% of the first serve what massively helped him to sprint through the set in only 24 minutes.
Kyrgios again used two out of four break points he had to win the match 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in an hour and 23 minutes. In the quarterfinals, he will meet winner of the match between the third-seeded Taylor Fritz and Hiroki Moriya.
