Emma Raducanu will have a chance to thrill fans on home soil at the upcoming Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Glasgow.
Team Great Britain did not need to qualify for the finals because it is the host nation. This is a sensible rule since it would have been strange for a country to host an event without a team to support.
Raducanu will hope to produce some of the magic that saw her win the 2021 US Open. She has struggled for consistency since then, which is understandable considering she is still just 19 years old.
Dimitry Tursunov, hired as Raducanu's coach after Wimbledon, still believes in her. He called the young star a great person who works hard, and the former ATP player thinks they will succeed together.
Working together for an extended period during the off-season will probably help Raducanu, but the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, the final tournament of the 2022 season, will come before that.
The finals, which will be contested from November 8th to 13th, will feature 12 teams split into four groups. Team Great Britain is in a group with Spain and Kazakhstan. On paper, that is not the worst draw for the host nation.
This year's Billie Jean King Cup Finals is particularly exciting because fans will be inside the stadium once again after the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the previous edition of the team event.
Raducanu has been named on Great Britain's team for November's finals, but that does not guarantee she will feature in Glasgow. Great Britain's captain, Anne Keothavong, is hopeful Raducanu will feature at the event since it is not for another month.
"I was literally on the phone to her this morning at the airport. We have the benefit of time on our side. The Billie Jean King Cup Finals isn't for another month."
