Gauff Shares Desire To Win WTA Finals But Would 'Rather Win Another Slam'

Coco Gauff would like to win the WTA Finals one day, but her bigger desire is winning a couple of more Grand Slams.

Grand Slams are, in many ways, the pinnacle of tennis. There are only four each year, and most tennis players consider them as the ultimate prize, Wimbledon especially. Gauff finally won her maiden Grand Slam at the US Open recently, and she obviously wants more.

The WTA Finals didn't go as well as she lost to compatriot Jessica Pegula in the semi-final. She wants to win the event one day, but it's not as big of a dream as winning more Grand Slams.

In the hierarchy of tournaments that she wants to win, the Grand Slams are still number one for Gauff.

It would be cool to win it. To be honest, as a kid, I always dreamt of winning Grand Slams. I think as I’ve grown as a pro on tour, I learned more about what the WTA Finals is about. I’d definitely say that would be a goal of mine now, after competing in it for 2 years & realizing this is the best of the best.

I do think I can improve. It would definitely be a dream. If I had to choose, I’d rather win another Slam. But it’s definitely a dream. I think this tournament is one of the most challenging. Not only because it’s the Top 8, but because it’s the end of the season.

Next year will certainly give her a chance to do both. She'll have chances to win more Grand Slams and likely will play at the WTA Finals as well. That is, if she keeps playing as well as she did last year.

That's pretty likely so look out for Gauff next year. It's going to be a fascinating year.
