Gauff Eliminated From WTA Finals By Doubles Partner Pegula

Coco Gauff lost in the semifinals of the 2023 WTA Finals after her doubles partner Jessica Pegula proved to be too strong.

The 19-year-old American is one of the most talented tennis players ever, and she's proving her talent with every tournament that she enters. Last year, she went winless at the WTA Finals, and now, the teenager made it to the semifinals.

In the semifinals of the year-end tournament, Gauff took on her doubles partner Pegula, with whom she still has a chance to make it to the semifinals in the doubles competition, and once again, it was a weird match.

Not because of how the two played but because of the weather, which once again complicated the proceedings. Both players had to deal with multiple rain delays that significantly impacted the match, yet one of the players was clearly better.

Pegula won two of the previous three matches that the two played, and both of those that were played on the hard courts. Therefore, it was not a surprise when she jumped out on an early 2-0 lead, especially after beating all of her opponents in the round-robin stage in two sets.

But Gauff quickly erased that deficit and made it 2-2 in the opener, but couldn't keep up with her opponent's pace for too long. Pegula was just too good, winning four more games in the first set to win it 6-2.

The 29-year-old continued her charge towards the 2023 WTA Finals final also in the second set, and even though it had to be stopped multiple times, Pegula never seemed to be bothered and just did what she was doing so well, playing her tennis.

After only around an hour of play, Pegula won the match 6-2, 6-1, reaching the 2023 WTA Finals final where she'll await the winner of the match between Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka.
