Emma Raducanu hasn't recorded many wins this year, but according to former player Tim Henman, she was actually impressed.
The Brit's win over Marie Bouzkova was one of her best performances this year, and she showed a very solid level in many of her matches, but she often failed to put together a full match, and there were some pretty shocking losses, like the one against Anhelina Kalinina.
You could argue that Raducanu has been pretty decent considering the amount of time she missed, and according to Henman, the former US Open champion impressed on her comeback so far, as he discussed her performances with The Standard.
"Form is temporary and class is permanent and seeing her level of play straight away in Auckland and then Melbourne, I was really impressed with her tennis level. Having played so little you could see that her level was excellent but that doesn’t surprise me because she’s that good. That’s never been in question, and I do feel she’ll get to the top again."
Henman has always fully backed Raducanu. She does have a lot of talent, and she now only needs to prove it on the tennis court, as she did in her opening match at the 2024 Indian Wells Open, which is a WTA 1000 tournament.
She won the first match against Rebeka Masarova at the event, where she played rather well last year. The conditions benefit her style of play, so there is always a good chance for strong results.
She needs wins because the way she lamented the loss to Kalinina in Doha kind of shows her frustration with how things are going. That's also good because it shows a level of urgency. She'll need that if she hopes to get back to where she wants to be.
