Eugenie Bouchard Eliminated In First Round Of Wimbledon Qualifying

Eugenie Bouchard didn't handle her first-round qualifying match at Wimbledon well, losing in straight sets.

The Canadian is trying to restart her career, but she doesn't seem to be able to put a good string of results together. Bouchard participated in multiple WTA events in 2023, but often she had to go through qualifying, and even after succeeding in those stages, she was often eliminated in the main draw quickly.

In the past, the Canadian was really successful. She made the Australian Open semi-final in 2014, adding a Roland Garros semi-final later that year as well as a Wimbledon final in 2014 as well. She was number 5 in the world that year but then her career went the wrong way. She struggled with her tennis for years going up and down in the rankings but never coming close to her former level.

She then dealt with some injuries and a minor resurgence back in 2021 though a shoulder injury completely derailed that comeback attempt. She's back to playing this year with more mixed results and more injury woes that are keeping the Canadian from putting together consistent results. It's a shame but it's unlikely that we'll ever see her as strong as she once was.

Now, she had to fight through the qualifying once again, this time in the All England Club, but her latest Wimbledon attempt was thwarted in the opening round by Greetje Minnen who won 6-4 7-5. It was an okay match from Bouchard but simply not good enough. Her body is failing her over and over again certainly doesn't help her ambitions.

Nowadays, Bouchard mostly makes headlines when she expresses an opinion or creates a controversy, or posts something on social media. She would certainly want to turn that around, but her tennis is not helping her a lot.
